Matthew 26:36 and 26:38 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” ...Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
Whenever I read this portion of scripture, I simply cannot imagine what went through our Lord’s mind. Gethsemane means oil press and how apt that it is at this place that the LORD was “pressed” on every side, exceedingly sorrowful. Yeshua, He is also the all-knowing God. Thus, Gethsamane was not only on His mind that night, it was a destiny He knew once He is of understanding. This art work depicts how in Yeshua’s whole life, His destiny to be “pressed”, scourged and to die for us weighs on His mind. And the start of that cup begins in the Garden of Gethsamane. I placed a special emphasis on His eyes to portray His compassion for us and how determined He was to be our sacrifice to redeem us.
